Be Aware of Phone Scams

Reminder from Your Local Government: Stay Alert to Phone Call Scams

We’ve received reports of residents getting phone calls from individuals pretending to represent government agencies, utility companies, or law enforcement.

Please remember:

  •  We will never call you to demand immediate payment.

  •  We will never ask for payment using gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.

  •  We will never threaten arrest or shut off services over the phone without prior written notice.

Scammers may “spoof” phone numbers to make it look like the call is coming from a trusted source — even a local government office.

If you receive a suspicious call:

  • Hang up immediately.

  • Do not share personal or financial information.

  • Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

  • You may also contact your local police department’s non-emergency number.

If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and call the official number listed on our website.

Let’s work together to protect our community. Please share this message with friends, family, and neighbors — especially seniors who are often targeted.
