IMPORTANT NOTE: Only employees of the Town of Long View are allowed to turn water meters on and off.
Testing a Commode: Add food coloring to tank and leave without flushing for at least an hour. If water in commode shows color, you have a leak! This will not harm the finish on the toilet or fixture.
Other leaks can be determined by shutting off all faucets inside and then going to the meter outside, lifting the lid and writing down the reading there. Do not flush the toilets or run any water for at least an hour and then go back to the meter and check the reading again to see if it has changed. It should register the same if there is no leak and change if there is a leak.
