Long View Man Charged with Statutory Rape of a Minor

Long View, NC - (Wednesday, September 2, 2026) – On July 22, 2026, the Long View Police Department Criminal Investigations Division was contacted by the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division seeking assistance in reference an alleged sexual assault involving a minor that occurred at a residence in Long View, NC. A subsequent investigation led to the execution of a thorough search warrant and issuance of multiple charges against Daniel Patrick McCommon, thirty-eight (38) years of age, for sexual offenses committed against a minor.

On Friday, July 24, 2026, Long View Police Department Criminal Investigations Division filed one (1) count of Statutory Rape of a Child 15 Years of Age or Less, one (1) count of Indecent Liberties with a Child, One (1) count of Failure to Register Sex Offender Online Identifier, and one (1) count of Solicit by Computer/Appear against McCommon.

McCommon was taken into custody by the Long View Police Department and transported to the Catawba County Magistrate’s Office, where he was held on a $200,000.00 secured bond for the charge of Solicit by Computer/Appear, a $125,000.00 secured bond for the charge of Failure to Register Sex Offender Online Identifier, and no bond for all other listed charges. Subsequently, McCommon was placed into the custody of the Catawba County Detention Center.

The case was presented before a Grand Jury at the Catawba County Justice Center on August 3, 2026, where probable cause was granted for the issuance of indictments against McCommon to include one (1) count of Statutory Rape of a Child 15 Years of Age or Younger, one (1) count of Statutory Sex Offense with a Child 15 Years of Age or Younger, two (2) counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child, one (1) count of Failure to Register Sex Offender Online Identifier, and one (1) count of Solicit by Computer/Appear.
