Town of Long View Announces Appointment of New Fire Chief

LONG VIEW, N.C. – The Town of Long View is pleased to announce the appointment of Berardino “Dino” DiBernardi III as the new Fire Chief of the Long View Fire Department. Chief DiBernardi brings more than two decades of experience in fire service, emergency medical services, emergency management, and public safety leadership to his new role.

Following a comprehensive selection process involving both internal and external candidates, and facilitated by an independent, third-party assessment team, DiBernardi was selected to lead the department into its next chapter. His extensive professional background, proven leadership abilities, and commitment to public service distinguished him throughout the process.

Chief DiBernardi is already a familiar face within the Long View Fire Department, having joined the department as an Engineer in July 2024 before being promoted to Lieutenant in July 2025. Prior to his service with Long View, he held numerous leadership positions with Caldwell County Emergency Services, including Chief of Department/Director from 2015 to 2024. His career also includes service as Chief of the EMS Division, Operations Chief, and Fire Inspector and Investigator with Caldwell County.

Throughout his career, Chief DiBernardi has demonstrated a commitment to professional development, operational excellence, and effective emergency services leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotions from Appalachian State University, an EMS Management Institute Certificate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Municipal and County Administration Certificate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Government.

His extensive professional credentials include the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) and Chief EMS Officer (CEMSO) designations through the Center for Public Safety Excellence, as well as the Executive Chief Officer (ECO) designation through the International Association of Fire Chiefs. He also holds numerous North Carolina fire service, emergency medical, and emergency management certifications.

Town Manager Melissa Lalonde expressed her confidence in DiBernardi’s leadership and the future of the department. "I am excited to see the future of the department flourish under his leadership and look forward to the positive impact he will make for our town."

With his combination of operational experience, administrative expertise, and established relationships within the department, Chief DiBernardi is well-positioned to strengthen emergency response capabilities, support firefighter development, and continue building positive relationships with the community.

The Town of Long View looks forward to this new chapter for the Fire Department and remains committed to providing the highest level of fire protection, emergency response, and public safety services to its residents and businesses.
